My First Giveaway: Quiet Book!!!!

I've decided that while I'm making my own quiet book for my future children, it would be just as easy to make a second one. And I debated and debated about who to give it to, and I couldn't decide. So I opted to have a little giveaway competition.

But rather than do a random giveaway (i.e. you leave a comment and I pick a random number and ship it off). I thought I would do it this way. To enter:

1. Type up the reason why I should pick you (i.e. my 3 kids will never be quiet in church, I am not crafty and will never be able to make one myself, and so on) and some information about you -- how many children you have, how old they are etc. (Note, if you don't have kids yet, but you are planning on having them you can enter as well, just fyi). Be witty, be creative

2. In one week I will post the entries on my blog and then let all the readers vote to tell me who they think should win.

3. Rather like in Dancing with the Stars, the popular vote is only part of the score, my vote counts too, in fact... I am the ultimate decider.

Note: Since the reason I am making this quiet books is largely to keep my kids quiet and happy during church (which for us is 3 hours--and hour of which seems especially difficult for kids), many of the pages will be religiously themed. Just thought I'd put it out there, in case that would be a problem for anyone. I know for a lot of you that would be just perfect.

I have been reading your blog for a couple of months. To be honest, I don't even remember how I found it! This is such an amazing giveaway! I am ALWAYS looking for ways to entertain my kids at church. I have a 5 year old daughter and two year old twins (boys). My husband is the bishop, so its pretty much just me and the kiddos. The only thing that I have found that really works is to feed them the ENTIRE time. But I would really like to move away from that! I am NOT crafty, but I love that other people are!!! The religious themed quiet book would be PERFECT for us!

I love to read your blog when I can - you have some great ideas that get sparks going in my brain. I have 4 kids and 1 more due in September! This book would be great for me because the older 3 are pretty good to sit and keep themselves busy - it's the 2 1/2 year old that we can't keep contained. Right now, I can't see how we are going to be able to keep her in her seat for more than 5 minutes. I would love this book so at least 1 of us can enjoy Sacrament meeting while the other is out with the baby. This is a wonderful idea and thank you for thinking it up!

I also would love to win your quiet book--after days like yesterday, especially. I have just two girls, ages 3 and 1, but they're in this stage where one is always crying, the other is always climbing and crazy... needless to say, it is exhausting. I'm confident that a cute book with lots for busy hands to do would keep them contented for at least a little while...

Honestly, though, more than that I'd like to win this, I'd probably rather make one with you... you're pretty close, right? We need to get together, and then we can discuss it. I just think I would love the time out doing something productive, learning new skills, and making something worth having. I have a sewing machine. :) Let me know what you think, maybe facebook message?

Hi Anna,
I'm not a consistent blog comment-leaver but I do love your awesome, creative ideas! Here's why you should choose the GARNER family for your quiet book giveaway (in an acrostic style poem):

Gregarious boys during church always wander, I'd much prefer they'd learn and ponder!

Army wife to a soldier deployed to Iraq, I’m counting down the months until he gets back.

Recently called as the RS Pres. (YIKES),

NO TIME to craft (but its one of my likes)!

Entertaining my boys singlehandedly gets wild! A great quiet book would make them more mild.

REALLY would love this book to win, it would make Max and Ezra grin, grin, grin.

Thanks for considering us, Anna!!!

SO, I didn't read the above comments. :) I figured that if I did I would just leave off and not even enter because I would feel guilty. I am SURE there is some other mom far more worthy to recieve your gift, but I thought I'd throw my hat in for fun.

If you read my blog at all you know that I constantly lament the fact that I am not crafty. I really like cute things, but I just can't do it. I can't bring myself to learn how to do it. I can't sew, I can't knit or do anything nifty like that, and I can't even make simple crafts like cards..... :) When I read your craftiness I'm always thinking, "I really should try to do more of that," but I never do. I'd rather read, or play with my kids, or learn a new instrument. :)

In any case - I plan on having more than 2 children.... maybe 6 (WHO KNOWS) and a quiet book is always a life saver. I would love it. I know Claire would love it, and Linus will in a few months, not to mention their future siblings.

Now to pour on the sap stories. I haven't slept well in 7 months. Yes, feel bad for me. JUST KIDDING!! :)

I also just got called to the RS presidency and I have a very horrible feeling that I might get called as the president (I'll keep my fingers crossed that the Lord doesn't have that in store for me). So I have limited time to do anything right now and making a quiet book would be quite out of the question.

You are soooo amazing!! Thanks for sharing your talents and craftiness.

Pick me….Me…Me…Me…Me…Me!!!!! I’ll tell you the reasons why I believe you should pick me, Anna.
First of all, my children LOVE quiet activities. We have a Sunday bag with all kinds of fun activities for them to do. They thoroughly enjoy them, and this book is something that all THREE of them would use. They also appreciate crafty, homemade things, because they have relatives who sew, and they’ve seen how much time and talent and work that goes into them. So I know it will be taken care of.
That being said, their mother isn’t terribly crafty, or maybe doesn’t have the patience or know how to complete such a book. So if they do ever get a quiet book, it will not come from me.
Also, when Lauren was 1 year old, a neighbor once shared a quiet book with us during a difficult RS hour. Lauren was mesmerized!!! I decided right then and there…. that I would commit to making one. I got the pattern from the neighbor, went the next week to JoAnn’s and spent probably $40 on a huge stack of felt, sewing notions, craft paints, etc. Guess what?? They’re still stacked nicely in my laundry room cabinet, waiting for me to start/finish!! UGH!!!
So, another reason you should pick me!!! I would happily share the materials that I’ve already purchased, or help pay for some of the materials that you’d need to finish yours and my book (of course, if you choose to pick me).
And if you don’t pick me, I won’t feel bad. I’m sure whoever wins will enjoy it. But if I won, it will be a boost for my ego. You see, I’m not sure I’ve ever won anything in my life. Maybe this will be my first!!!!???? Yeah.

Hopefully this isn't over, I never had time to write anything . . . which tells you why I never have time to make anything such as a quiet book. My kids are full of energy, we have sacrament meeting last, and we're about to add another small body to our pew . . . need I explain to the masses the intracacies of our situation? Quiet them, and I'll be your best friend.
